I worked on a site-based performance at the Bonneville Salt Flats, Salt Lake City, Utah. I spent 6 hours sifting 360 pounds of salt from 12 piles arranged at equal intervals in a circular formation like the numbers on a clock face. I released the salt in lines as I crossed the circle, focusing on the salt sifting through my fingers. This process represented a cleansing of the accumulated sediment of memories, both personal and social, through immersion in the physicality of the present.
